Human trafficking means “the unlawful act of transporting or coercing people in order to benefit from their work or service, typically in the form of forced labor or sexual exploitation.” It happens a lot more than people are aware of or notice. It is estimated that about 600,000-800,000 men, women and children get trafficked across international borders a year. Out of the 600k-800k it is estimated that 70% are female and 50% are minors. In 2018, 51.6% of the criminal human trafficking cases active in the U.S, were sex trafficking cases involving only children. In 2018 it was said that the U.S was the number one consumer of paid sex. Many other countries take people and send them to the United States or other countries where they sell them for prostitution amongst lots of other things. California consistently has the highest human trafficking rates in America. It can happen anywhere, There have been sightings of trafficking in gas stations, restaurants, hotels, casinos, clubs along with many more places. Some people who are in that position don’t try and find help, for their own personal reasons. It’s common for people to get “Stockholm syndrome” Which means the victim finds attachment to the abuser. Many people are also scared to leave.
