Michell Kussow a teacher here at FHS has a very interesting life outside the walls of FHS. We asked her some questions about her squirrels, which she has raised.

Where did you find the squirrels at and why did you help them?

Back in September 2 baby squirrels fell from their nest.  We placed them in a box for mom to come back and get but mom never returned.  As it was getting dark that night I took them in to care for them.

What do you feed them?

I syringe fed them puppy milk replacer at first and then ordered squirrel milk online.  They ate that until they were big enough to take solid food.  Then they got lots of nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies.

Where do they sleep at?

They slept inside a cage in my home until they were old enough to be released.
One of them sadly suffered a spinal cord injury from the original fall and was not “releasable” so he was rehomed to a nurse friend of mine who is still caring for him.
Do they come back and visit you?
The other one, his name is Jerome, was released in my backyard and still comes to me daily for food and treats. He has a home in the trees but will come when called and climb all over me and take food from me.
