Within our school, we have about 34 people who have come out this year to participate on the girl’s track and field team. They joined to be with their friends, better themselves physically, be part of a fun environment, and even be part of what feels like a huge family. Sure the team may have their up & downs and there might be a little bit of drama, but in the end we are always there to support each other, emotionally, physically, and in any other way.
Every person has a different drive to why they do track, Sky Golebiewski-Kral who said “I like to push myself to see how good I can get. Also I love using hurdles.” or like Chloe McMahan whose drive is “to beat Leslie Tabor’s record in shot put, or at least beat my own best,” many peoples drive to participate in track is to better themselves, or push themselves.
There is an event for everyone in track, whether it be sprinting, hurdling, jumping, throwing, or distance.  Helen Martin is one of the extraordinary girls on the team, she wants to to do 100M hurdles, 300M hurdles, and possibly long jump. Another person who is an example of this is Gracie Cochran who says “I’m planning on throwing shot and discus this year because I’m built better to throw than run.” or even take Chelsea McGuire who says “100, 200, and the 400 because I think in can push myself in practice and possibly qualify in those events.”
From every sport you gain something, whether it be experience, or get better physically and mentally. People plan to gain different things from track, like Sam Partridge who says “I hope to gain some speed to help my cross country races.” but then others like Shayla Davis plans to “gain mental toughness, good friendships, and important tips and lessons that I can carry with me through life.”
To sum up everything that has been said, there are so many reasons to be on the track team, whether it would be to gain friends, to better yourself mentally or physically. There are so many reasons to go do a sport and if you want to start in a sport track is probably the way to go. It is relaxed but not so relaxed that you don’t do anything. Everyone on the track team is charismatic and upbeat.
